Ruby Lee’s Birth Story

This whole process has been quite incredible. We decided to look into an adoption agency, but instead we were approached with the possible opportunity to adopt an unborn baby girl privately.
We never in a million years expected it to happen so quickly or the way that it did, but boy have we been blessed by the process.
A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps- Proverbs 16:9

How true this was for us! And how perfect God’s ultimate plan.

We feel incredibly lucky to be included in the pregnancy as well as then doctors visits- it helped us to prepare and identify with the new little life we would be bringing home in August.

The day finally arrived: we had spent the weekend cleaning and loving on Eli. It was hard to imagine what it would all be like, but we would day dream about our life as a family of four.
Our birth mom was admitted with pre-labor conditions, and went into labor on her own over night. By morning, she was ready for an epidural, and had begun to progress nicely. A 2, then a 3, then a 5 by 12 or 1pm.
Everyone waited impatiently, for something to happen, but eventually we just decided a nap would be best.
After naps, we found out she had stalled out at 5cm. The doctor didn’t seem hopeful that she would progress anymore, and was going to give her an hour to show some change.
Our amazing friend, Joli, at The Painted Doula set to work- changing up positions, and trying different techniques. Within 30 minutes she was complete and it was time to push. Joli was definitely a huge part of our success and I attribute her progression to Joli’s knowledge and skills.
We had the amazing gift of being allowed to be present during the birth. As soon as the doctor announced that she had suddenly reached the point of pushing, tears welled up in my eyes and the room became a bustle of nurses and doctors.
Our birth mom was stoic and strong- she pushed for 15 minutes before Ruby arrived. Our OB called me over, placed my hands in the appropriate spots, and guided me in pulling Ruby out. I delivered Ruby! It was incredible!! I never had the opportunity to even attempt delivery with Eli, so experiencing birth from the other side just took my breath away. I held her while Barry cut the cord and then we walked to a neighboring room.
She was weighed, cleaned and then snuggled.

Later we came back to visit with the birth mom. Hugs and whispers of admiration and appreciation were exchanged. Pictures were taken and then we were walked to our own room.
I’m sitting here watching her sleep from across the room. It still doesn’t feel real. That she is ours. That she will come home with us and be a part of our family. I have a wrist band that identifies me as mama, but it’s the next few days of snuggles and caring for her that will make all of this real.
We have done nothing to deserve this amazing gift. Ruby, we have waited for an opportunity to expand our family. Our love for you is instant. We have so much to learn from you and I am excited to see what God has in store for you as your grow.

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us during this time. Those who loved on Ruby and shared in our joy of this experience. Who prayed non-stop over the weekend and all day Monday, who loved our birth mom and helped to make all of this smooth and natural.

She’s perfect and we can’t wait to share this wild ride with all of you!
I will be updating when I can, but with two little ones under two, I will have my hands quite full!! 😉
Love all of you!! Thank you so much!

Not flesh of my flesh, nor bone of my bone, but somehow miraculously still my own. Never forget for a single minute, you didn’t grow under my heart but in it.
